Getting started

Here's what to do

  1. Choose a source of energy and an equipment supplier. Check regulations (municipal, provincial and federal) that apply in your area.
  2. Obtain an enrollment form for the net metering option (1 800 363-7443). You must describe the equipment you intend to purchase on this form.
  3. Complete the form and return it to Hydro-Québec for technical validation.
  4. Hydro-Québec will send you an Interconnection Agreement after it has confirmed that your equipment meets the required standards in effect:
  5. Sign the Interconnection Agreement and return it by mail.
  6. Purchase your generation facilities and have them installed.
  7. Hydro-Québec will inspect your generation facilities to check that they comply with the Interconnection Agreement. The cost of the inspection is $400.
  8. Hydro-Québec will install a special meter at its expense.
  9. Hydro-Québec will send you a letter confirming that the net metering option is effective and authorizing you to begin taking advantage of this option.
Your responsibility
When you are ready to get started, Hydro-Québec will help you enroll in the net metering option. However, it is entirely up to you to choose the energy source and generation facilities you want, including the uninterruptible power supply system or inverter.
Hydro-Québec agrees to do the following:
  • Provide a reliable, continuous supply regardless of the fluctuations in your output.
  • Maintain the rate conditions for the useful life of your facilities, as long as you are the owner.
