Infrared Heating

Electric infrared is the most precise heating system available on the market. Used mostly for spot heating, infrared radiation (IR) warms people and objects directly on contact, without being absorbed by the ambient air. What's more, it is suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications.

Not to mention that electric infrared is more efficient than competing technologies and keeps energy losses to a minimum.

No matter what the application, electric infrared is your best bet since it transfers heat instantly and efficiently, where and when you want.

Did you know?

Electric infrared heaters are more energy efficient than gas-fired infrared units.

The overall energy efficiency of an electric IR system is two to four times greater than that of a gas-powered IR unit.

Type Electricity Gas
Spot heating 4 1
Total area heating 2 1

Overall energy efficiency is a combination of the following three factors:
  • Radiant efficiency:
i.e., the ratio of heat generated to power consumed
  • Directivity efficiency :
i.e., the ratio of heat reaching the object or person to heat emitted
  • Regulation efficiency:
relating to energy losses caused when the heater is turned on and off

If you're leaning toward an IR solution, Hydro-Québec can provide invaluable assistance. Simply contact our representative, who will visit your facility and recommend the best option based on an analysis of your requirements.

Our representative will then put you in touch with one of the three suppliers that have signed a service agreement with Hydro-Québec. Each of our partners is a reputable firm whose products have been tested by our energy technologies laboratory (LTE) and met our performance criteria.

To help you design a system tailored to your application, the supplier will take into account the ambient temperature, the desired comfort level (target surface temperature) and the volume (m3) of the objects or persons to be heated. These parameters will determine how many heaters you need as well as their power rating, layout and positioning.
