Hydro-Québec is working with Bell, Vidéotron, Cogeco and Telus to coordinate the installation and extension of underground distribution lines in residential and commercial districts.

Distribution options

Municipalities and real estate developers have a number of options for providing integrated power and telecom distribution.

Overhead system

This is the primary system for power and telecom distribution. An overhead system, which is offered at no cost and is the simplest to install, can be harmonized with the various components of the urban landscape.

Hybrid overhead/underground system

This is an attractive alternative for residential and commercial districts. More aesthetically appealing than an overhead system, a hybrid system leaves the environment above lots unencumbered and is easily harmonized with the various components of the urban landscape.

This is an attractive, discreet option for residential and commercial districts. Offering flexibility and aesthetic appeal, an underground system with pad-mounted equipment leaves the overhead environment above and near lots unencumbered, is well suited to residential development and minimizes the cost of an underground power distribution system.
