Categories and eligibility criteria

Business customers

Categories  
Industrial Project: An energy efficiency project involving natural resource and energy source development and the transformation of materials into finished products.
Institutional Project: An institution's energy efficiency project.
Commercial Project: Energy efficiency project involving the marketing of products or services.
Agricultural or Agri-food Project: Energy efficiency project involving the production, processing, development and packaging of agricultural products for human and animal consumption.

Eligibility criteria

  • Business customers who received an ENERGY WISE Citation of Excellence will be invited to submit their application in the designated category of the ENERGY WISE Competition of Excellence.
  • Customers who carried out projects as part of the Traffic Light Optimization Program are not eligible for an ENERGY WISE Competition of Excellence category.
  • The five businesses with the highest number of projects may apply, but must select only one of their projects.

Eligible applicants will receive a letter containing the information necessary to fill out the application form, including the name of the category in which they should apply.

Business partner categories

The business partners who carried out initiatives under Hydro-Québec energy efficiency programs and who meet the eligibility criteria will be invited to submit their applications for an ENERGY WISE Award of Excellence.

Category Eligibility criteria
Retailer (Head Office)
  • Signed partnership agreement with Hydro-Québec
  • Hydro-Québec POP promotional material displayed between January 1 and December 31, 2008
Distributor (POP)
  • Signed partnership agreement with Hydro-Québec or expression of interest in a Hydro-Québec program
  • Energy savings of at least 100,000 kWh under the Efficient Products Program through products for which rebate claims were accepted between January 1 and December 31, 2008
Consultant
  • At least five projects submitted and completed between January 1 and December 31, 2008, under an Empower programs
  • Partnering professional status (Empower Program for Building Optimization); no energy efficiency project submissions (or acceptances) for own employer
  • Maximum of three projects judged to be substandard after compliance verification
Manufacturer and Manufacturers' Agent
  • For residential sector manufacturers - Signed ENERGY WISE partnership agreement with Hydro-Québec
  • or
  • For business sector manufacturers - Signed Efficient Products Program partnership agreement and one or several products sold (minimum of 30 units) by one or more distributors led to accepted rebate claims under the Program between January 1 and December 31, 2008
  • or
  • For manufacturers' agents - Signed letter of agreement between agent and manufacturer and manufacturer's consent for agent to participate in competition on manufacturer's behalf
Master electrician
  • Member in good standing in the Corporation des maîtres électriciens du Québec (CMEQ)
  • Between January 1 and December 31, 2008
    • Installed at least 1,000 thermostats in new residential buildings
    • or
    • Installed at least 100 thermostats in existing residential buildings
    • or
    • Achieved at least 60,000 kWh of energy savings under the Efficient Products Program by selling products for which rebate claims were accepted
