Johanne Desrochers has been working for over 20 years to develop the consulting engineering industry by fostering a positive business environment and contributing to a greater appreciation of the consulting engineering profession. Recognition of the profession, which is governed by a code of ethics and plays a key role in sustainable development, is one of her primary concerns.

With a degree in business administration from UQAM, Ms. Desrochers has been the President and Chief Executive Officer as well as official spokesperson of the Association des ingénieurs-conseils du Québec (AICQ, the Québec association of consulting engineers) for 10 years. Prior to that, she successively held the positions of Executive Director and Executive Vice President. The vast majority of Québec engineering firms are members of the AICQ.

Ms. Desrochers, a certified association executive, headed the Québec chapter of the Canadian Society of Association Executives from 1996 to 1999 and sat on the national Board of Directors from 1999 to 2005. In 2004, she received the Québec chapter's Leadership Award and, nationally, the Banff Centre/CSAE Award of Excellence in Association Leadership. Among her other honors is the 2002 Performance award from Réseau ESG (UQAM's management leaders' association).

Ms. Desrochers is very active in the business community, sitting on the boards of the Conseil du patronat du Québec, the Centre for Expertise and Research on Infrastructures in Urban Areas and TransForm, as well as the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal's sustainability committee.

A firm believer in the importance of the connection between art and business, she has been involved in various capacities with the Domaine Forget in Charlevoix, I Musici and the Théâtre PAP.
