First three quarters of 2009: Hydro-Québec posts net income of $2,180 million
Net income for the first nine months of 2009 totaled $2,180 million compared to $2,662 million in 2008, when Hydro-Québec had posted $254 million in non-recurring items, including a $129 million regulatory asset for revenue variances mainly related to the warmer temperatures recorded in 2006 and an additional gain of $125 million on the sale of the company’s interest in Transelec (Chile). Excluding these non-recurring items, the decrease in net income is $228 million, or 9%. This shortfall is primarily due to a decline in revenue from net electricity exports whereas in 2008, Hydro-Québec had benefited from particularly favorable export market prices.

Refurbishing the 675-MW plant will extend its operation until about 2040, allowing Hydro-Québec to keep a reliable asset that contributes significantly to the stability of its power grid. This generating facility, in commercial operation for 25 years, has another advantage: it does not produce any greenhouse-gas emissions.

Income from continuing operations reached $2,882 million for 2007, up $85 million over 2006. This increase was chiefly due to a rise of $290 million in net electricity exports, which was mitigated by a non-recurring foreign exchange gain of $234 million recognized in 2006. It should be noted that net exports represented 5.6% of total sales volume, but generated 25% of net income.

Net income totaled $3,141 million for 2008, up 8% over 2007. The $234-million increase was mainly the result of higher net electricity exports by Hydro-Québec Production. In 2008, these exports, which accounted for 8.2% of sales volume, generated 32% of income from the company’s continuing operations.

Hydro-Québec has seen record electricity consumption due to the extremely cold weather conditions that prevail throughout Québec. According to projections, Québec's power requirements will continue to rise and could reach 38,000 MW by Friday morning. The all-time electricity demand peak of 36,268 MW registered on January 15, 2004 was nearly equalled this morning, as consumption hit the 36,250 MW mark.

TM4 partners with Tata Motors and Miljø in electric vehicle demonstration project
TM4 has been selected by Miljø Innovasjon, a subsidiary of Tata Motors, to provide electric motors, power electronics and vehicle controllers for an electric car demonstration program to be launched in Norway in 2009–2010. Under this program, Miljø will produce over one hundred units of an all-electric version of Tata Motors’ new Indica Vista. Hydro-Québec will refurbish Gentilly-2 nuclear generating station
Hydro-Québec will invest $1.9 billion to refurbish Gentilly-2 nuclear generating station in Bécancour. Refurbishing the 675-MW plant will extend its operation until about 2040, allowing Hydro-Québec to keep a reliable asset that contributes significantly to the stability of its power grid. This generating facility, in commercial operation for 25 years, has another advantage: it does not produce any greenhouse-gas emissions.

Financial results for 2007: Hydro-Québec posts income from continuing operations of $2,882 million, up $85 million
Income from continuing operations reached $2,882 million for 2007, up $85 million over 2006. This increase was chiefly due to a rise of $290 million in net electricity exports, which was mitigated by a non-recurring foreign exchange gain of $234 million recognized in 2006. It should be noted that net exports represented 5.6% of total sales volume, but generated 25% of net income.
