Micoua Substation

Start of construction at Outardes substation, June 2012.

In spring 2012, Hydro-Québec obtained the necessary government authorizations to begin construction of the Outardes substation, in the Manicouagan RCM, in the Côte-Nord region. Commissioning of the facility is slated for fall 2014.

The project involves:

  • constructing a 735-kV switching substation;
  • building a 735-kV tie line, about 5 km long, to connect the new Outardes substation with the existing Micoua substation;
  • relocating an existing line so it enters Outardes substation rather than Micoua substation.

  The new substation will help improve system reliability and is in keeping with the development objectives of Hydro-Québec’s transmission system.
