The line route is in the municipality of Baie-James.
As part of the Éléonore project, Opinaca Mines is currently prospecting on the northeast side of Opinaca reservoir.
At the promoter's request, Hydro-Québec is conducting draft-design studies for the following:
The ideal solution for this scenario would be to build a 63.5-km line that could be operated at 69 kV in 2009 and subsequently converted to 120 kV. Using the same line instead of building a second permanent line will substantially reduce the environmental impacts of the project.
Commissioning of 69-kV service will take place in fall 2009, followed by commissioning of 120-kV service in 2011 if the mining project goes ahead.
