69-kV line to be dismantled

69-kV line to be dismantled

A transmission line operated at 69 kV connects Les Méchins substation (69/25 kV) and Goémon substation (230/69 kV) through Cap-Chat substation (69/25 kV). The line has been in service since 1961 and must now be replaced.

The preferred solution, developed on the basis of planning studies, will involve first rebuilding 2.5 km of the line to allow for future 161-kV service, then dismantling the remaining 28 km, along with Les Méchins substation. From that time on, customers in Les Méchins will be supplied from Matane and Cap-Chat substations. Improvements will be made to existing distribution lines to support this change.

Work and commissioning are slated for fall 2010.
