*The substation has been given the name “Rive-Sud” for the time being, but this will be the subject of discussions with local communities once the route has been chosen.

To meet the growing demand for electricity, a transformer substation will be built on the south shore of Montréal.

The planned Rive-Sud substation (315/25 kV) is a long-term solution to the capacity constraints besetting Brossard, Chambly and Saint-Basile substations. In addition, it will include the underground infrastructure needed to supply the growing load on the distribution system around the intersection of highways 30 and 116.

During the spring of 2010, once the technical, economical, environmental and social studies have been completed, Hydro-Québec will file for the necessary permits according to the environmental impact assessment and review procedure provided for in sections 31.1 and following of the Environment Quality Act. Construction could begin in spring 2012 for a fall 2013 commissioning.
