We're getting a pool! Cool!

Before putting in a pool, be aware of these considerations and avoid unpleasant surprises:

  • Proper clearance between your pool (in-ground or above-ground) and electrical equipment
  • Hydro-Québec's right-of-way (clearly indicated on your survey certificate)
  • The location of your back property line, especially if a power line runs behind your lot

Once the pool's installed …

Think safety!

Water and electricity can combine to cause severe shock. Check the points listed below to keep your family and friends safe.

  • Is the leaf skimmer pole made of nonconducting fibreglass? A fibreglass pole could save your life if you happen to touch a power line with it.
  • Do the power outlets outdoors near the pool have ground-fault circuit interrupters? They cut off the current in the event of an accidental shock.
  • Is the round prong on the filter power cord in good condition? That's the grounding prong, and it's there for your protection.
  • Are there any electrical devices like radios, TVs or phones near the pool? They are a hazard and should be moved away.

Think savings with a timer

Set your timer to turn the pump off and on as recommended for the type of pool you have. You'll save up to $85 (in-ground) or $60 (above-ground) each summer, while maintaining water quality.

Once summer is over, keep on saving with your timer all winter long by using it to control your outdoor lighting or block heater.
