Summer's the time for swimming, but it's also the time for thunderstorms. And storms mean voltage fluctuations, which can damage electronic equipment.
Protect
yourself during
storms, too!
Remember these safety guidelines:
- If there's no building nearby where you can take shelter, get into a hardtop car.
- Avoid touching anything made of metal, such as fences, golf clubs, tent poles or umbrellas.
- Get back to shore if you're out in a boat, or get out of the water if you're swimming.
- Don't take shelter under an isolated tree: get away from it.
How can you safeguard your electronics?
- Plug them into a power bar that provides protection against voltage surges and spikes.
- Unplug them during severe storms.
Power bar or surge suppressor?
A power bar with surge suppression is made especially to divert voltage surges and spikes before they can reach your equipment.
An ordinary power bar is useful for plugging a number of devices into the same outlet, but offers no protection
against voltage surges. Be sure to choose the right kind of power bar for your needs.
