Consider geothermal energy!
The idea is simple: A geothermal, or geoexchange, system extracts heat from the ground or underground water to heat your house
in winter and transfers the heat from the house into the ground in summer to cool it.
Before you decide, be sure to compare the costs, benefits and requirements of a geothermal system, as you would for any
heating system.
Financial assistance
Although a geothermal system is much more energy-efficient than
a conventional electrical heating system and can save up to 60%
on home heating costs, it does cost more to install.
That's why Hydro-Québec offers grants on installation of a geothermal
system by a Canadian GeoExchange Coalition-accredited firm:*
- $2,800 for a new house
- $2,000 for an existing house**
*Some conditions apply.
**Other grants are available for existing houses.
