Practical tips
Get the most out of your lighting
- Let in natural light through windows and skylights.
- Turn lights off when you’re not using them.
- Clean bulbs and fixtures regularly.
- Using too much light is wasteful. Choose the right power for your need.
- Use individual switches rather than a master switch to control several lights.
- White reflects about 80% of light, and black barely 10%. Keep those facts in mind when you decorate.
- Replace bulbs in hard-to-reach areas like cornices and stairwells with CFLs. You won’t have to change them often, since they last a very long time.
