Swimming Pools, Spas and Electrical Safety

Safety Checklist

Water and electricity are a deadly combination

  • To ensure your safety, leave all electrical work to a master electrician.
  • Make sure the electrical outlet on the wall of the house facing the pool is equipped with a ground-fault circuit interrupter.
  • Make sure your pool filter's power cord is in good condition.
  • Ensure the plug's round grounding prong is still straight and intact.
  • Make sure your pool's electrical lighting system meets current standards.
  • Long-handled pool accessories-even wooden ones-can lead to severe electric shock if they're used too close to power lines. Choose a leaf skimmer with a non-conductive, fibreglass pole. It could be a real lifesaver!
