Is the credit amount the same for everyone?
Everyone who received an electricity bill in 2018 or 2019 is eligible for a credit. However, the amount will vary based on the person’s electricity use during that time.
How will the credit be calculated?
The amount you receive is established based on your electricity use between January 1, 2018, and December 31, 2019, with taxes added.
The credit will be calculated as follows:
Electricity billed in 2018 + electricity billed in 2019 x rate* = credit amount
In the case of an average-sized home (158 m2) with a total consumption of 52,988 kWh for 2018 and 2019, the calculation would be $4,330 x 2.49% = $108
*The rate corresponds to the relationship between the accumulated amounts in the variance accounts and the actual revenue amount in 2018 and 2019.
Average credit for homes heated with electricity
- 51/2 apartment : $44
- 111 m2 home: $81
- 158 m2 home: $108
- 207 m2 home: $133
Will I receive a cheque?
If you are a Hydro‑Québec customer and you consumed electricity in 2018 or 2019, you are eligible for a credit, but you will not receive a cheque. The credit will be applied to one of your bills
between the end of January and the end of April 2020.
If you received a Hydro‑Québec bill in 2018 or 2019, but you are no longer a Hydro‑Québec customer, you are also eligible for a credit. If you owe us money, the credit will first be applied to the
amount due. Any remaining amount will be sent to you by cheque provided it exceeds $2.
If you have still not confirmed your address, we will mail you a cheque, by the month of April 2021, to the last address in your file.
If you have any questions, please contact our customer services.
I’m signed up for the Equalized Payments Plan. How will the credit be applied?
The credit will appear on the bill with your detailed consumption data, which is issued every other month. It will appear under Credit note and be applied to your monthly installment.
If you have a spread-out balance from the previous year, the credit will be applied to that balance.
I owe Hydro‑Québec money or I have a payment arrangement. Will I receive a credit?
If you have an unpaid balance and you do not have a payment arrangement with us, the credit will appear under Credit note and be applied to the amount due.
If you have a payment arrangement with us, the credit will appear under Credit note and be applied to one of your installments.
In 2018 or 2019, I received an electricity bill jointly with other people. Who will receive the credit?
If the bills were addressed to more than one person in 2018 or 2019, but you and the people in question are no longer jointly responsible for a Hydro-Québec account, you are entitled to a credit. However, if you
have an unpaid balance, all or some of the credit will be used to settle your account. If the remaining amount exceeds $2, you will receive a cheque in the mail that is made out to all of the people who were
responsible for that account. We will not issue a cheque for each person.
If you have still not confirmed your address, we will mail you a cheque, by the month of April 2021, to the last address in your file.
If you have any questions, please contact our customer services.
If you and the people in question are still jointly responsible for a Hydro-Québec account, you do not need to do anything. The amount will be applied to one of your bills between the end of January and the end
of April 2020.
I have several service contracts in the same account. How will the credit be applied?
If you have several service contracts in the same account, we will calculate the credit for all of the service contracts. The credit will appear on one of your bills by the end of April 2020.
When you receive the bill where the credit appears, you can view the calculation details on your Customer Space.
How can I request the credit for a deceased person?
Given the wide range of possible situations, we encourage you to contact customer services to give us detailed information about your particular case.
