Construction of Brome substation and its supply line

Although Estrie has been well served by the power system for 130 years, the region’s high‑voltage lines and substations are now operating at full capacity. To continue to supply clean and renewable energy to the region, our electrical system upgrade in Estrie has been underway since 2016.

The upgrade includes the construction of a new substation and a supply line in the Brome area.

In concrete terms, the project involves:

• The construction of a new 120‑kV substation
• The construction of a 120‑kV transmission line between the new substation and the existing 120‑kV lines
• The dismantling of Sutton, Knowlton and Eastman substations as well as certain 49‑kV lines.

Location of the future substation

There are many geographical and technical constraints that must be taken into account when building a substation, including local topography, space required for the equipment, ability to keep the site secure and the clearances required for the substation’s transmission lines.

Based on the technical and environmental studies conducted and preliminary consultation with the community, a site was identified for the construction of the future substation, as shown on the map.
