Following the adoption of An Act to simplify the process for establishing electricity distribution rates in 2019, Hydro-Québec is required to send the Régie de l’énergie, on an annual basis, information related to its electricity distribution activities, as well as the comments it receives from the public. The 2020 information is contained in eight documents and can be viewed online using the following links.

Some 2020 highlights

Residential rates that remain among the lowest

In 2020, there were no rate increases in Québec because of the rate freeze under the law An Act to simplify the process for establishing electricity distribution rates. Québec’s electricity rates therefore remain among the lowest in North America. Residential customers with a monthly consumption of 1,000 kWh continue to pay $73 per month, just as they did in 2019.

Energy efficiency: A lever for economic recovery

As the energy sector undergoes a transformation, energy efficiency remains at the heart of our priorities.

In 2020, the Efficient Solutions Program was expanded. Companies can now benefit from financial support covering up to 75% of eligible expenses for over 200 energy efficiency measures. By taking part in the program, companies reduce their electricity consumption and recoup their investment much faster, thus contributing to Québec’s economic recovery.

The document entitled Energy efficiency [PDF 120 Ko] (in French only) provides information on the energy savings achieved since 2018 through current programs.

96 seconds: The average call wait time is down

The exceptional circumstances in 2020 led a decrease in the average call wait time, which is down from 103 seconds in 2019 to 96 seconds in 2020.

Support for customers in challenging times

The year 2020 was challenging for many customers, but Hydro-Québec quickly introduced measures to help during the COVID-19 pandemic. The support strategy led to an 84% decrease in collection-related complaints, which is in line with the broader 28% reduction in complaints handled by Hydro-Québec in 2020.

The Performance [PDF 308 Ko] document (in French only) contains more information on the complaints handling activities report.
