Refurbishment of Rapide-Blanc generating station

For 80 years, Rapide-Blanc generating station has been supplying precious megawatts to the Hydro-Québec power system. Many factors justify investing in the facility’s future: its role in managing the Rivière Saint-Maurice, its clean, renewable and reliable energy, its installed capacity and geographical position. We are carrying out major work to improve reliability for the coming decades.

The work involves replacing the station’s six generating units and refurbishing its water intake gates, draft tubes, switchgear, control gear, auxiliary mechanical equipment, auxiliary transformers and the station building.

Preparatory work was completed in 2019, and the refurbishment efforts that began in 2020 will continue through 2026. Additional work is also planned, including the construction of a new distribution substation.
