The person who wishes to be responsible for the service contract, or an authorized representative, must make a verbal or written request. A landlord cannot apply for electricity service on behalf of a tenant. The following information must be provided:

To ensure that the responsibility of the electricity bills for their rental units is managed appropriately, landlords must inform Hydro‑Québec of any unit purchase or sale.
Hydro‑Québec now allows you to choose in advance whether or not you want to be responsible for the electricity bill when a unit becomes vacant. If you make your choice via the Manage Rental Units self-service tool, you will avoid certain costs that are currently required when dealing with a representative by phone.
Each time you carry out an action in the Manage Rental Units self-service tool, you will receive a confirmation. You may also receive an e-mail alert each time the service contract holder changes in one of your rental units.
You must notify Hydro‑Québec as soon as you notice any error in:

The tenant must cancel his or her service contract.
Electricity service contract at domestic rate (residential) or at the general rate: only the tenant or his or her duly authorized representative may contact Hydro‑Québec to cancel a service contract.
Any other type of service contract: the tenant must inform Hydro‑Québec in writing at least 30 days before the desired cancellation date.
Hydro‑Québec will cancel the contract on the date agreed upon with the tenant. Hydro‑Québec is not a party to the lease.
If there is no new tenant, Hydro‑Québec will respect the decision the landlord made via the Manage Rental Units self-service tool in his or her Customer Space or by calling customer services. By default, or if Hydro‑Québec does not know the landlord of the unit that the tenant is leaving, Hydro‑Québec may disconnect the electricity service.
To ensure uninterrupted service, be sure to ask the new tenant to contact us and request an electricity service contract right away.
You may inform Hydro‑Québec of your intention to end your responsibility for the rental unit. If the new tenant does not request a service contract, Hydro‑Québec may disconnect the electricity service.
