Produce electricity
while remaining connected to the Hydro-Québec grid

Hydro-Québec has not entered into any partnerships with any suppliers of self-generation equipment or with any business associations promoting the sale of such equipment.

Hydro-Québec is not responsible for either the purchase or the installation of generating equipment.

Hydro-Québec's sole role is to authorize connection to its power system and to ensure that the equipment meets its requirements.

Important:

We suggest that you submit your project to Hydro-Québec before purchasing any equipment.

A self-generator is a Hydro-Québec customer who produces electricity using equipment they own and operate to meet part or all of their energy needs.

  • Are you a trail-blazer in self-generation technology?
  • Interested in a certain level of energy independence?
  • Ready to invest in power generation equipment?

As a self-generator, you can act on your convictions while optimizing your consumption.

  * Less than 50 kW.

  • You are eligible for the net metering option

The net metering option is for customers connected to the Hydro-Québec grid who want to operate power generation equipment of any sort (generator, wind turbine, etc.) to produce electricity for their own use from eligible renewable sources. This attractive, environmentally-friendly solution can help self-generators optimize their energy use as part of a global vision of energy efficiency.

Hydro-Québec allows generation equipment to be connected to the power system and surplus power to be injected onto its grid in exchange for kilowatt hour credits that are applied to your bill. With this plan, you have access to the Hydro-Québec grid at all times for those occasions when self-generation does not meet your consumption needs.

Periodically, you will receive your bill along with a consumption statement in kWh detailing how much electricity was supplied by Hydro-Québec and how much you injected onto the grid.

  • You are eligible for the Self-generation without compensation plan

The self-generation without compensation plan is for customers connected to the Hydro-Québec grid who want to operate power generation equipment of any sort (generator, wind turbine, etc.) to produce electricity for their own use.

Hydro-Québec allows generation equipment to be connected to the power system and surplus power to be injected onto its grid, but does not provide compensation. With this plan, you have access to the Hydro-Québec grid at all times for those occasions when self-generation does not meet your consumption. Periodically, you will receive bills charged at your existing rate, along with a consumption statement in kWh detailing how much electricity was supplied by Hydro-Québec.

  • Sorry!

You must own the location to connect electricity generation equipment to the grid. If you have a business, you must be the owner-operator.
