Hemmingford | Reconstruction of substation and a portion of the 120‑kV supply line

Public consultation

Public consultation is a key element of our project planning process. That’s why we meet with the host communities.

Our discussions with you help us better understand your community and optimize our projects to ensure an optimal integration of our equipment.

Our public consultation process

Pre‑consultation

During this initial step, we meet with the host community. We typically meet with the MRCs, municipalities, cities, environmental organizations, such as the UPA, and certain local economic organizations. We present our study area and encourage local stakeholders to share their comments and concerns before initiating our analysis of the possible line route variants.

Information sharing is key at this point as it allows us to study the environment and identify feasible line routes, which will be presented to the public during the consultation phase.

Consultation and presentation of the project

During this step, we once again consult with local stakeholders and we meet with the public in order to do the following:

  • Present the route variants studied.
  • Present any changes made to the project design (height of the towers, width of the right‑of‑way, etc.).
  • To encourage cooperation with the host community, speak to the landowners concerned about possible improvements and upcoming steps.
  • Gather comments, concerns and questions from organizations and the public regarding line route variants as well as questions about the substation.

Announcement of selected solution

During this last phase of our public consultation process, we present the results of our analysis conducted following our environmental studies and our consultation activities.

In this step, we:

  • Present the selected line route variant.
  • Hold discussions with property owners affected and local organizations to ensure an optimal integration of the new line into the host environment.
  • Include the comments and concerns from the host community in our environmental assessment process to ensure that the chosen tower is well suited to the host environment.
