Montérégie–Sainte-Rosalie 120-kV line

Hydro-Québec has defined an initial study area in which all components of the biophysical and human environments will be analyzed. It covers some 27 km2 and extends on either side of the existing 120-kV line between Montérégie substation and the crossing with the 120-kV line located in Saint-Dominique.

A second study area includes Sainte-Rosalie substation as well as all of the 49-kV lines and substations between Saint-Damase substation and Grantham substation in Drummondville. This study area covers some 17 km2.

Both study areas are composed mainly of agricultural land, wooded areas and residential sectors.

Environmental assessment process

In the coming months, Hydro-Québec will conduct technical studies and detailed environmental inventories to identify the project’s characteristics and obtain an in-depth understanding of the host environment.

Once these studies are completed, the project team will be able to propose one or more line routes that will be presented to the public. These routes will be subject to comparative analyses based on environmental, technical and economic criteria.

Main environmental and technical challenges

With the knowledge that Hydro-Québec has at this time, the main environmental and technical issues associated with the redevelopment of substations and the construction of a 120-kV supply line are related to the presence of:

  • Some waterways and wetlands
  • Wooded areas and wildlands
  • Dwellings scattered throughout the area
  • ATV and snowmobile trails
  • An existing 120-kV line

At every step of these studies, Hydro-Québec will take the community’s concerns into account to determine the line route with the least impact.
