The Cree Nation Youth Council of Eeyou Istchee was founded in 1985. It is independent from the GCC (EI) and it advocates for Crees 13 to 29 years of age, supporting their participation in local, regional, national and international development. The Cree Nation Youth Council also helps Cree organizations improve the well-being and quality of life of the communities’ young people. Each community has a youth council. These councils focus on promoting education and a healthy lifestyle. They organize activities for young people, in particular to prevent drug and alcohol abuse.
