A number of painters, sculptors and craftspeople have forged an excellent reputation in recent years. Their works reflect the relationship of the Crees with the land and wildlife.

The Cree Regional Authority created the Mimaahtaawaayihtihtaaw Grant Program to promote Cree art. Another fund provides financing for the performing arts (concerts, plays, etc.). In 1999-2000, these funds gave financial and organizational support for projects by many Cree artists and groups, including concerts and performances in Cree communities, other parts of Québec and in France.
