The efficient decarbonization of municipalities
Get on board the energy shift!
Québec has embarked on an ambitious transition toward a low‑carbon economy.
Municipalities can contribute to the collective decarbonization effort‒and reduce their energy costs‒by implementing solutions in energy efficiency and power demand reduction in infrastructure like arenas, fire stations and pumping stations.
By opting for greener solutions and sustainable mobility, municipalities can contribute to Québec’s decarbonization.
Get financial support for energy-efficient solutions
Efficient Solutions Program: Energy analysis
Municipalities can receive financial support of up to $50,000 to conduct an energy analysis of a building or equipment to determine the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of implementing energy efficiency measures.

Efficient Solutions Program
Receive financial support of up to 75% of eligible costs when you install equipment or carry out renovations to improve a building’s envelope and therefore reduce its energy consumption. Municipalities are eligible for the Medium and Large Businesses component of the Efficient Solutions Program. To find out more, consult the participant’s guide of the component that best meets your needs.
Timing is everything!
Demand Response Option
With the Demand Response Option, you could receive a credit at the end of the winter period if you reduce the power demand of your buildings—and, by extension, the load on the power grid—during peak demand events.
Hilo
Choose an automated solution that’s compatible with several control systems to manage your buildings’ electricity use.

Dolbeau-Mistassini received $24,447 in financial support for energy efficiency initiatives, including an ingenious heat recovery system in its sports center’s aquatic facilities.

Trois-Rivières – Demand Response Option
Combining responsible energy use with the sound management of municipal finances
Trois-Rivières benefited from a $145,268 credit on its electricity bill last winter by taking simple actions to reduce the power demand in nine of its buildings during peak demand events.

North Hatley – Charging stations for electric vehicles
Meeting residents’ EV needs
North Hatley is transitioning to electromobility with the addition of public charging stations. In June 2022, the town received close to $20,000 in financial support for the commissioning of its first two curbside charging stations.

Inspiring energy-saving projects
Pumping station
Electricity consumption for pumping was reduced thanks to the installation of VFD pumps (existing equipment).
Financial assistance received: $43,540
Arena
Electricity consumption was reduced by installing several pieces of equipment, including a heat recovery system to preheat HVAC air, a heat recovery system to preheat domestic hot water and LED light fixtures, in the existing building.
