What’s a renewable energy certificate?
A renewable energy certificate (REC) is equal to 1 MWh of electricity generated from a 100% renewable source.

When you purchase a REC for the amount of electricity your building uses in a year, you become the owner of the environmental attributes associated with the energy the building consumes.
